men’s Mental health

INTERVIEWS AND INSIGHTS FROM CHADWICK FACULTY
I chose this project because the stigma around discussing men’s mental health is something that has affected me personally, as well as those who are close to me. I want to thank all who participated, especially the 5 teachers who I interviewed, as their words and perspectives will hopefully help many other men within the Chadwick community and beyond.
Mr Nordlund teaches history at Chadwick School, which he joined in 2002.
Mr Nordlund was my AP US history teacher in junior year, and we connected through a shared love of history.
In a deeply personal interview, he shared insights that have already shaped my thinking about men’s mental health and my aspirations for my life going forward.
Mr Cass teaches math at Chadwick School, which he joined in 2000.
Mr. Cass was my Math teacher in 8th grade. He and I connected through his sense of humor and his ability to make a subject I disliked enjoyable.
In his interview, Mr Cass talks about his experience with his mental health and how his upbringing affected his ability to discuss it, as well as how he has grown in his willingness to engage in these discussions with others.
Mr. Morales teaches Spanish at Chadwick School, which he joined in 2008.
Mr. Morales helped me shape my pursuit of Spanish through his relatable storytelling and his engaging teaching style.
In his interview, Mr. Morales talks about the importance of maintaining a healthy balance of activities in his life, and knowing your own limits in order to avoid burnout.
Mr. Miranda teaches History at Chadwick School, which he joined in 2018.
Mr. Miranda’s easygoing attitude and calm demeanor made him one of my favorite teachers at Chadwick, and has helped him establish a reputation as one of the nicest teachers at Chadwick.
In his interview, Mr. Miranda talks about the importance of proactivity in regards to addressing his mental health, as well as how significant vulnerability is when having conversations about this issue.
Mr. Wallace teaches Economics and acts as the Dean of Students at Chadwick School, which he joined in 2009.
Although I have never been taught by Mr. Wallace, like most students at Chadwick, I have felt his presence during assemblies and other events through his vibrant personality and enthusiasm.
In his interview, Mr. Wallace talks about the importance of sleep, diet, and exercise, which have all positively impacted his ability to manage and process his own mental health.
